GPT-5 released just a few weeks ago and it's drastically cheaper than similar models. I think efficiency might not be that big of an issue long-term


They could be simply under cutting the market, there’s no guarantee that it’s actually that much cheaper to operate for OpenAI


They wouldn't be so eager to remove access to their other models if 5 were more costly to run.


You’re operating under the assumption that they can deploy multiple models at scale with no additional overhead. I wouldn’t be so sure of that…


Why did they keep hosting old models before gpt5?


Maybe they spent so much money making got-5 they can’t afford to run older models anymore
