I do still choose Ubuntu repo-based distributions. I tried Debian repo-based but found inexcusable arbitrary differences in packages so don't trust them as much. I hope that the Ubuntu repository doesn't get so tainted that we need a third. Flatpack is starting to look like a worthwhile default for a lot of cases.
I've always seen Ubuntu as extremely non-utilitarian, given that the desktop is slow and buggy as hell for example, and now even the terminal itself will show ads instead of doing work. I'll stick with Gentoo.
