my slack strategies lately:

* mute everything, except my team's chat;

* turn off the "is typing" feedback;

* use the web version in a standalone browser (eats 200mb ram only instead of 2+gb, in srware iron at least);

* mute colors with custom "theme";

* turn off emoji display (falls back to :foo: :bar:);

* remove the rest of the emojis with greasemonkey extension (and mute more colors);

* collapse documents by default (really helps with big animated gifs).

But I still am trying to cope with some of the problems mentioned in the article and sometimes I have this feeling that I'm part of the problem (expecting fast replies, whining at times, not being constructive enough etc).
