The thread you link to has one performance test, with a difference of 750MB for OpenVPN and 870MB for SSH - how is that a factor of 6 to 8? And that's just for iperf/UDP traffic, which is hardly a good indicator of real world performance.


Why would iperf-created traffic not be a good indicator of real world performance?

On pretty much all sensible networks I've tested iperf3 on, performance of actual applications sending data was close to its results.
