What mini PCs do you like, and which cooling system have you found nice to have?

For daily driver for me anything with good ventilation and for gaming the acemagic but one absolutely must format the provided NVME or replace it as there is old malware and the windows image has been customized to mute and cripple windows defender. On windows the CPU mitigations must be disabled or the integrated GPU runs hot. Usage before: 83%, after 13%. I still use win11 for some games for the anti-cheat crap.

The mini-PCs are vulnerable to graphics errors in some video games that can perma-brick them. Many people ran into this issue with Starfield and one specific multi-beam gun turning their mini-PC into a paper-weight.

For cooling I get a desktop sized HEPA filter unit and remove the panel on the mini-pc that permits access to memory/nvme. Enough air will get past the memory/storage sockets to cool the CPU.

Very good summary, thank you!

I'm not sure how private and secure Telegram is, but I convinced many people to switch. The main reason behind every switch was not the better privacy, but the greater product: features, that the mainstream alternative did not have.

That's a good point. Thanks for sharing. I would not comment on the Telegram's privacy at this moment.

I'm building a website to integrate flashcards for memorization and LLMs for active learning.

The pictures on the gofundme look AI generated to me.

Why are you laughing on this?

It's yours to the degree IP law and lawyers say it is. Your particular problem may or may not stem from that fact, but the direction things (DRM) are going in have been clear for a long time now.

Why aren't side projects worth it if they're just for the money?

From experience majority of side projects that set out to make money, don’t make any money.

And the projects have to make a large amount of money to be better than a typical software developer salary.

Consider then that you’re probably already working 40 hours, where are you finding the time for a sustainable side project that generates income?

That takes months, years to get to any reasonable amount of income.

That being said, I have made money from side projects, I made 1/5 of my yearly salary in about 1 month of conception (from a software sale).

But that was a pure fluke, right place right time right tool right amount of luck. I’ve been making side projects for years, 9/10 of my projects lose me money lol

I would guess because with solid software engineering skills you can (could?) make more money consulting in the extra time to make money. I think that might have been true a couple years ago but now is exactly the opposite. Although side projects are not that "side" for the current unemployed.

So you mean a Eureka moment? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eureka_effect

Wow, I can't believe I'd forgotten this was actually a phrase and tried to coin my own instead

I can imagine that your brain was developing those neuron paths for a while, but on that bus, in that moment, the paths related to these topics have finally met!

For me, it works. By the way, I did not know about it, how is it different than https://libgen.is/ or https://www.gutenberg.org/?

The killer feature is that you can search for books by file format. Something that doesn't exist on the rest.
